He may be a rebel, but arrested Maoist top gun Deepak has a religious side too.
During his interrogation by Andhra Pradesh Police's elite anti-naxal force Greyhound here, investigators discovered that he was a devotee of Balaji or Lord Venkateswara.
Deepak, who was arrested in Kolkata on Tuesday, touched his right ear with his right hand when a force member mentioned the name of the lord, police sources revealed. The gesture, which is a sign of a Balaji follower, surprised the investigators. But Deepak did not try to hide his faith, they said.
Deepak, whose real name is Venkateswara Reddy, is named after the Tirupati god. He is being quizzed at Bhabani Bhavan, the CID headquarters, for allegedly masterminding the attack in Silda.
