Trinamool Congress today accused the CPI(M) of killing people in Junglemahal area under the guise of Maoists and terming the presence of joint forces there as "useless", made a fresh demand for their withdrawal.
"It is becoming increasingly clear that the Marxists are killing the people in guise of Maoists. If the Maoists are responsible for the killings, why can't the government arrest them," party general secretary Partha Chatterjee said at a
press conference here.
Stating that the joint forces did not have any efficacy in Junglemahal, he called for the withdrawal of the forces.
"(Policemen) Kanchan Gorai and Sabir Molla (kidnapped in July, 2009) are still untraced. So are Partha Biswas and
Soumyajit Basu (kidnapped on Friday night). Those responsible for maintaining law and order could not find them," he said.
The Trinamool Congress's signature campaign demanding withdrawal of the joint forces today received an 'overwhelming response,' he claimed.
Claiming that slain PCPA members Biswanath Mahato and Pradip Mahato were Trinamool Congress workers, Chatterjee said Union Minister Mukul Roy visited their bereaved families on instructions of party chief Mamata Banerjee.
"The CPI(M)'s armed goons are doing politics of killing with the help of the police. If anyone is killed, we will
visit their family. We will not be afraid of anyone," the Leader of the Opposition said.
