Railways will enter into an agreement with the Kolkata Port Trust to improve connectivity between rail and port.
"Chairmen of the Railway Board and Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) will meet on July 8 and sign an MoU for improving connectivity between rail, Haldia port and the proposed deep-sea port in Sagar Island," Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters in Kolkata on Monday.
She said a special purpose vehicle would be launched for this purpose.
Banerjee said the matter was discussed at a meeting here during the day in which Minister of state for Shipping Mukul Roy and KoPT chairman ML Meena were present, besides Sudip Bandopadhyay, TC chief whip and MP from Kolkata North also attended the meeting.
She said port infrastructure in Haldia would also be strengthened.
Banerjee said KoPT and Kolkata Municipal Corporation and RITES would join hands for the project to beautify the Hooghly river bank.
She said, "we held a discussion to draw up a masterplan which will rejuvenate the economy and industry in the state, when the West Bengal government sponsored a holiday by organising bandh which affected the economy."
