A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the Sutahata police station area of Haldia on Sunday.
The minor is currently under treatment at the Haldia subdivisional hospital. The victim’s father on Sunday moved a complaint with the Sutahata police station and the sleuths have since begun a probe into the outrage. The victim’s father further claimed that a section of hospital staff tried to dissuade him from moving a police complaint.
According to local sources, the minor had been raped by a local at Barda village in the Sutahata area and the victim had even been threatened against spilling a word about the outrage to anyone. The accused, the sources said, allegedly forced the minor to remain under water for hours.
Though the girl kept silent for a start, she was later forced into confiding her horrors to her parents after she fell ill.
“My daughter told me that a village local forced himself on her when she had been by a nearby pond on Wednesday morning,” the victim’s father said.
