The Calcutta high court on Thursday allowed the mother of the two children who were returned from Norway to keep them with her till her plea for their custody was disposed of.

Justice Dipankar Datta, however, allowed the children's uncle Arunabhas Bhattacharya to meet them every Saturday for two hours at the residence of advocate Subrata Talukdar.

"I found that the kids are very fond of chocolate. Give them chocolate when they come to your residence to meet their uncle," the judge told Talukdar.

The judge, however, disapproved of Sagarika Bhattacharya, the mother, taking away children from the custody of Arunabhas with the help of the police on January 8 when her petition was pending with the high court, but declined to taken action against her.

Arunabhas will now decide whether to appeal against the decree of the child welfare committee, which had ordered the children be restored to their mother, before the district judge. If he succeeds in his appeal, Sagarika will have to return the children to him or move the high court again. Sagarika had been living with her husband and children in Norway. But after a dispute the couple started living separately. In April last year, when the Norwegian authorities found the kids were not taken care of by her husband, they were sent to a shelter home there.
