It seems it’s all in the family for Abdul Karim Tunda. With the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative’s father-in-law languishing in Presidency jail since 2009, Kolkata Police now wants to grill his terrorist “daamad” to find out more about LeT’s network in Bengal.

Kolkata Police officials have told HT that they are looking for an opportunity to interrogate him.

Tunda and his father-in-law, Abu Taher, alias Zakaria, are both explosives experts and are believed to have actively helped the LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) to carry out terrorist operations in India. Zakaria, the police said, had married one of his daughters to Tunda.

In 1999, the duo also played a crucial role in the hijack of the Indian Airlines flight IC-814, which had apparently led to the release of JeM chief Masood Azhar and other terrorists.

“We want to interrogate Tunda to find out more about LeT’s operations and logistics in Bengal. Our team will soon initiate the process to get him in our custody. We already have his father-in-law in our hands,” said a senior officer of the special task force of Kolkata Police on Sunday.

Sleuths in Kolkata believe they will get from Tunda vital information on the LeT network in Bengal, which forms a critical junction in terrorist supply chains.
