Police achieved a breakthrough in the murder of schoolteacher and actor Indrajit Chakraborty (29) when they arrested two persons and detained another two early on Saturday morning.
Chakraborty was murdered in his Regent Colony residence on Monday night. His body was found with hands and legs tied and the mouth stapled.
Chakraborty used to teach at Gobindapur Kalicharan Vidyapith at Raichak in South 24-Parganas. He was also a small-time actor who had played the male lead in Bengali movies, Ajo Du Chokhe Tumi and
Chhayapatha, and had also acted in some Bengali serials.
The murder created ripples in the film industry. On Saturday, the four, all of whom were known to Chakraborty, were picked up from different locations in and around Garia. Police have recovered one of the mobiles and the laptop from the accused.
“The two arrested were Pavel Saha and Subir Das. Saha has been identified as the main accused. The two detained are Abhijit and Sudipto. All four were known to the victim,” said a senior police officer.
Police sources said Saha and Das had come to visit the victim on Monday evening, moments before Chakraborty was found murdered. Chakraborty’s body was recovered by his friends who stayed in an adjacent room.
“We are exploring all angles. We are trying to find out whether the motive was robbery or if there was any other motive,” the officer said.
