Police on Sunday fired teargas shells to disperse an irate mob shortly before West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was to address a rally near here.

Before Bhattacharjee arrived at Apurbapur, five km from the now abandoned Tata Motors Nano project site, activists allegedly belonging to the Trinamool Congress-backed Krishi Jami Raksha Committee (KJRC), entered the factory shouting slogans, police said.

The activists demanded return of 400 acres "forcibly acquired" by the West Bengal government for the Nano project, they said, adding the mob threw stones at them with when they intervened. Three person were arrested while two policemen were injured in the brick batting, they added.
