Amid growing public outrage over the fraudulent investment scheme run by the Saradha Group, a large section of the Trinamool Congress leaders, on Tuesday, demanded immediate action against party Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh for his proximity with the dubious firm.

The names of Lok Sabha MP Shatabdi Roy and transport minister Madan Mitra have also been linked to the chit fund company.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, however, ruled out immediate action against the leaders, saying the law would take its own course.

"We raised the issue at the meeting of the MPs in Delhi today. The party should take action against Ghosh and others who are directly linked with dubious firm. The image of our party has been badly dented," a senior Lok Sabha MP from South Bengal said.

MPs Sisir Adhikari, Sougata Roy and Suvendu Adhikari, among others, attended the meeting.

"It was Ghosh who misguided our party chief. There are several allegations against him of working hand-in-glove with the chit fund kingpin. Until investigations are over, all those leaders who had links with Sudipta Sen and his dubious firm should be removed from their present positions," a Lok Sabha MP from north Kolkata

Sources said journalist-turned-politician Ghosh struck a deal with Sudipta Sen, against whom he had once written in a newspaper.

"I'm not ready to accept that Ghosh was just an employee of the group. He planned the entire media operations and was the man behind Sen's rise.

"It is he who brought him close to the party. Why shouldn't he be punished?" a minister said.

The party fears that illicit monetary transactions between Ghosh and Sen may come out in the open when the
police interrogate the Saradha chief, which, in turn, can embarrass the party further.
