The final report of the probe committee, which was placed before the varsity authorities on Saturday, confirmed that the warden of Karabi hostel had asked a student to lick her own urine — allegedly to “cure” her bedwetting problem.
Earlier, authorities of the Visva Bharati University had insisted that no such incident had occurred.
A senior varsity official told Hindustan Times that a three-page report, attached with supporting documents, was submitted to vice-chancellor Sushanta Duttagupta on Saturday.
Sources said the committee members took note of the versions of 20 persons, including the girl, her parents and the accused warden, in the report.
“In her version, Karabi hostel warden Uma Poddar confessed that she had asked the girl to lick her urine,” the official added.
In the beginning, authorities at the varsity had tried to defend the warden's act by stating that making children drink urine was just a “traditional method” of curing bedwetting.
Then, at a press conference last Monday, Duttagupta said the “warden had asked the girl to lick the urine, but didn't force her”.
Countering this, the girl retorted: “I did lick the bedsheet after salt was sprinkled on it. How can the VC claim I was not made to lick it when he was not present at the scene?”
A two-member NCPCR team is likely to visit the girl on Monday.
Meanwhile, the girl’s parents went to the hostel, so they could collect her clothes, books and other essentials.
Monoj Mistri, her father said, “We are yet to decide where to admit her. We are discussing the issue amongst ourselves.”
