Railways plans sops for travellers

The Railways is planning to introduce a new sop for loyal passengers, similar to the airlines’ frequent-flier programmes, by offering free travel against points accumulated over a certain period of time. HT Correspondent reports.
The Railways is planning to introduce a new sop for loyal passengers, similar to the airlines’ frequent-flier programmes, by offering free travel against points accumulated over a certain period of time.
Sam Pitroda, who heads a railways expert committee, said at a meeting of American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) in Kolkata on Friday, “The railways may think of such a scheme to improve the image among its frequent travellers.”

Indian airlines started mileage points for frequent fliers in the early nineties. Under this system, travellers flying with a particular airline collect points against the distance they travel. And once a certain figure is reached, he gets to fly free.
