Salt Lake witnesses 5 petty thefts and a molestation in just 24 hours

Even Salt Lake has not been spared from the onslaught of crimes against women that has recently been plaguing the state. The satellite township witnessed five cases of snatching this weekend, including one accompanied by molestation, all within a 24-hour span. While the molestation case and three thefts were reported on Saturday night, one more such incident took place on Sunday evening.

Even Salt Lake has not been spared from the onslaught of crimes against women that has recently been plaguing the state. The satellite township witnessed five cases of snatching this weekend, including one accompanied by molestation, all within a 24-hour span. While the molestation case and three thefts were reported on Saturday night, one more such incident took place on Sunday evening.

The daughter-in-law of a former minister was molested at the high-profile Salt Lake Township on Saturday night. The incident took place in GD block. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Bidhannagar south police station at around 9 pm. The offender first tried to steal the victim's mobile phone and then molested her.

She was walking home after a visit to the local market when the incident occurred. According to sources, the miscreant Abdul Hakim, resident of Duttabad in Salt Lake, approach the victim from behind her.

He was on a cycle. Hakim first tried to forcibly grab the woman's mobile phone from her hands. Since she was on the alert, she managed to grab him by the arm and prevent him from taking her phone. At this time he molested her said sources.

When the victim raised an alarm the miscreant tried to run away. Role said that a green police on duty at GD island, assisted by a local youth, responded to the woman's cried and chased the miscreant, who was on his bicycle. They managed for catch him and others immediately gathered at the spot. Hakim, being caught red-handed, was beaten up before being handing over to the cops.

Abdul Hakim was produced at Bidhannagar additional chief judicial magistrate's court on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody.

One incident of snatching took place at AH block on Saturday when miscreants snatched a gold chain from Rina Bhattacharya, a resident of Digantika Abasan, as soon as she alighted from a taxi. Two miscreants on a bike carried out the theft.

The third incident occurred at BF block, where victim Jaba Chakraborty lost a gold chain. Nearby BK block was fourth to be affected by the spate of crime. This time a chain was snatched from Kakali Das. The modus operandi was the same in all three cases. The miscreants have no been identified since they were wearing helmets.

Around 9 pm on Sunday Debasmita Jena, resident of AL block, was returning home from BJ market with another woman.

A lone biker snatched a 10 gm gold chain from her and fled. Sunday's incident took place after cops had tightened security in the area, launching a massive effort to check vehicles at entry and exit point in Salt Lake.
