A class 8 student (13), a resident of Mahamayapur under Sonarpur police station, was allegedly gang raped on two occasions 11 days ago. The crime was reported on Friday night when the girl finally confided in her parents and an FIR was lodged against four youths at Sonarpur police station.
The police have arrested two of the culprits while the other two are absconding.
The culprits reportedly recorded the first rape on a mobile phone and then threatened the victim that if she reported the incident, they would upload the video on social media, besides circulating it among their friends.
The police have arrested Sujay Chatterjee, the victim’s neighbour, and Surajit Sarder and are searching for the remaining two. The first gang rape occurred on January 27.
The victim was on her way to a tutor’s house when Sujay lured her to his house on some pretext. When she went there, there were two others waiting.
All three raped her and captured the crime on mobile. They then threatened her to keep mum, promising to upload the photos on Facebook if she did not cooperate. The next day she was dragged to her neighbour’s house again where there was a fourth youth.
The duo raped her but this time, the crime was not recorded. The victim, however, fell ill and subsequently confided in a friend who managed to convince her to tell her family.
Finally, an FIR was lodged and the police initiated a case of gang rape and also slapped Section 66A which deals with cyber crime.
