The Union home ministry and the West Bengal government are preparing to enhance the security level for chief minister Mamata Banerjee by bringing in NSG commandos — on the lines of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

On Friday, security provided to Trinamool MPs Sisir Adhikari and Suvendu Adhikari was enhanced. This is because they are active in West Midnapore.

“We are requesting the CM to use bullet-proof cars and abide by security protocol... she previously refused to take such security cover,” said a highly placed officer of the state home department.
