Venkateswar Reddy (44), alias Telugu Deepak, the state committee member and Bengal military commission chief of the Naxalites who was arrested last Wednesday, has told intelligence agencies that Maoists have raised an action squad to target government establishments, specially the police and paramilitary, in the city.

Intelligence officials named areas in the districts of North and South Parganas and Howrah — that surrounds Kolkata — from where the Maoists have recruited their members. Kolkata may be seeing a return of the Naxalites.
