A simple case of mobile snatching turned into a blood chase on the streets like any Bollywood blockbuster movie at a stone's throw from the chief minister's residence in south Kolkata on Sunday morning. Four persons, including a housewife, were injured when a mobile snatcher shot at them after local residents chased him.
The youth, identified as Md Aslam alias Baccha Alam was arrested by the Gariahat police station officers after he was caught and beaten up by the locals.
It all started with a mobile snatching on a running train near Ballygunge station. Rajesh Choudhury (30), a resident of Narendrapur in the southern fringes of the city was travelling on a Sealdah-bound local train. An employee of a hardware shop on 7, Ezra Street, Choudhury was going to his shop. Around 8.50 a.m when the train had just left the Ballygunge station and was moving slowly towards Bijon Setu, a youth aged around 24 years snatched Choudhury's Motorola mobile phone from his shirt pocket. Before Choudhury could react the youth jumped out of the train. Choudhury raised an alarm but the youth was out of reach.
Choudhury jumped out of the train and started to chase him. But when he caught up with him Rajesh, who was apt in tackling his preys, kicked Choudhury in his groins.
