A Trinamool Congress leader of South 24-Parganas has been accused of torturing a middle-aged woman. The accused has been identified as Manoj Bapari, a neighbour of the woman, according to the police.
According to the police, Amal Halder, a CPI(M) leader of Uttarbhag was murdered during the Left regime. All the accused were identified as Trinamool Congress supporters. After their government came to power, Trinamool supporters started threatening the relatives of Halder.
According to the police, Bapari entered the residence of Halder’s kin and stripped his wife, who later lodged a FIR. “There is a tussle between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) in the locality. We also cannot rule out the possibility that it may be a cooked up story. However we are probing into the matter,” said a senior officer of South 24-Parganas.
