The Trinamool Congress on Sunday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission about alleged threats West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has been issuing to the opposition in his campaign speeches.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee also demanded that the commission deploy a special observer for overseeing the election process in the state.
"The chief minister, who is also the home minister, is threatening the opposition in his speeches. His provocative comments are polluting the political atmosphere," said Banerjee.
On her demand for a special observer, Banerjee said: "They (the main ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist) are trying to terrorise the opposition. They are indulging in violence and all sorts of electoral malpractices. There is need for a special observer for the state".
