After its resounding success in the Lok Sabha polls, the Trinamool Congress on Sunday reconstituted its youth body with an eye to the 2011 West Bengal assembly elections, bringing in party MLA Madan Mitra as president of the All-India Trinamool Youth Congress.
Another party MLA Arup Biswas and youth leader Subhashis Chakraborty were named as AITYC general secretaries, party sources said.
Mitra, Biswas and Chakraborty are known as Mamata Banerjee loyalists and their nomination to the posts is seen as the Trinamool Congress chief's strategy to expand and consolidate her party's support base among the youth.
Party MP Subhendu Adhikary was recently made state president of the Trinamool Youth Congress.
"It will be my endeavour to bring in a lot of youth from all walks of life into the Trinamool Youth Congress. It is the youth who can make a lot of difference," Mitra said after taking over as the AITYC president.
He said he would lead a four-member team of party MLAs to Goghat, Khanakul and some other areas of Hooghly district which witnessed clashes between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) activists.
"We will visit those places, talk to the people and submit a report to our party chief for working out a future course of action," he said.
