A career diplomat, Kolkata-born Sanjay Mark Wadvani has taken charge as the new British Deputy High Commissioner for eastern India.
Wadvani, with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, was earlier posted in China, South America and the Middle East, a release from British Deputy High Commission said on Saturday.
He was born in 1966 and his family moved to the UK eight years later, it said.
Prior to his posting in Kolkata, Wadvani was head of the FCO's policy team which was given charge to implement part of UK's strategic engagement with China.
The release said that Wadvani looked forward to working closely with the West Bengal government and other partners to take forward the Indo-British business and development and social agenda.
