Women use OnDemand online television service more than men do, to watch the episodes of programmes missed on TV, reveals a study.

The study, headed by research firm Colmar Brunton, found that 76 per cent of more than 600 viewers were female and 80 per cent fell under the age bracket of 40.

According to TVNZ, nearly 1.5 million programmes were being watched each month, and nine out of 10 watched OnDemand at home, reports Stuff.co.nz.

Broadcasting expert Peter Thompson tagged the research findings far from surprising.

The lecturer at Unitec said that women watched more soaps, which could account for the gender divide.
