Complexities of human life expressed through abstraction in bold colours and textures, a play on Hollywood legends alongside global leaders, depiction of the female form and some strokes on nature — the latest show by gallery TAD Arts sees artists from different genres using various techniques and materials highlighting their distinct individual styles.

Titled Quad Set Go, the participating artists include Rajan Krishnan, Shubhra Das, Hindol Brahmbhatt and Nupur Kundu. While each artist’s line of work is different, Brahmbhatt’s artworks stand out because of their unique play on the material. He has worked on a combination of canvas and burnt wood. “I am highly inspired by German painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer who used to draw wooden textures on canvas,” says the artist, adding, “I use shellac black colour to draw on wood, as it’s difficult to use oil or acrylics. Kiefer used to do the same.”

One of his works, titled, Reality of life, sees Gandhi drawn in shellac, interacting with a kid on the upper half of the canvas, while the lower half has images of various currencies. The work is a play on the state of our economy and the weakening rupee.

Other interesting works include Das’ depiction of self and the female form in its most sensual and graceful form. Krishnan, on the other hand, has nature inspired artworks, with the topography and surroundings from his native place — Kerala. With his works, he brings in the simplicity of Kerala’s landscapes alive on canvas.
