The summer vacation is on, and since colleges are already off, how about using this free time for some interesting activities? Dancing, singing, painting ... nurture your pet passion during this time. We make your decision easier — here’s a roundup of some interesting summer workshops around town.
Do some draamebaazi
Dramatics is an art form where you can be yourself and get into someone’s shoes at the same time. Conducted by Delhi-based Asmita Theatre Group, a one-month long workshop will enhance both your vocal and facial expressions. “During the workshop, the students perform street plays at a public place and a stage play too. In the end, a certificate is also provided,” says Rahul Khanna of the group. They induct 20-25 students for street, stage theatre and solo acts.
Kick off the boredom!
With the increasing violence against women, it’s high time women learnt self defence techniques. Join these self defence classes meant only for ladies at International Karate Federation of India. The two-day workshop will include basic defence techniques to combat various situations. Conducted by Sensei Yogender Chauhan, the classes will teach the moves used in Karate and other martial arts.
Be the Shutterbug
If you want to quickly learn the art of shooting pictures, head to the Indian Institute of Photography. Their summer course includes basics of photography, handling of camera, outdoor shoots, visual literacy, shoot assignments and editing. The course will enroll 15 students, giving them six sessions over two weeks, only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You can also enroll for online classes here.
Rock it this summer
Prepare for your next adventure trip through the 15 day long rock climbing course by the Youth Adventure Club. Starting from basic rock climbing principles, the sessions will run you through the introductory knowledge about mountaineering equipment, rock climbing zones, mountaineering knots and many more. A batch will comprise of five to six students in a 3-4 hour session each day. The club also organises separate adventure outings occasionally.
Neither aerobics, nor yoga... Pilates is actually a mix of both. Use your free time to not only lose weight, but to shape up, tone and improve your body structures at Rendezvous Club. Merged with exercises such as running, dancing and swimming, these only for women classes bring great results. You can choose any Tuesday or Thursday to begin with. One batch only inducts 15-20 people. So get yourself rolled in for these and give a surprise to your friends, as you’ll return to college all new.
Mix it up!
Keep cool this summer by learning to juggle and mix your drinks in style with Cocktails and Dreams, Bar School. Their one month certificate course takes you through the basics of bartending by giving an insight into beverage tasting, classification and identification, cocktail mixology and a hands-on experience in their bar. Beginning on June 13, the course, which is for both amateurs and professionals, helps you hone your cocktailing skills. Held five days a week, the workshop will have around 15 students in a batch.
