Are you one of those who are living life with a straight face and following the same monotonous schedule everyday? Take out time and have a good laugh. Scott Capurro, an American stand-up comedian, writer and actor based in London, is coming to the country on a three-city tour to Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
His comedy is known for its deliberate provocative material which often refers to gay life and culture, politics, race, racism and popular culture. “I’ll be discussing Jesus’ role in same-sex unions and organised religion as a gay sceptre, in general. Bollywood is in the mix, mostly as a threat to classic choreography and those with any respect for melodies. And, of course, I satirise the Chinese,” says Scott, who is being brought here by The Comedy Store.
He is also a Perrier award winner — a coveted honour in the field of world comedy. Ask about the kind of response he is expecting from the audience here and Scott says, “Now that I’m a married homosexual, I anticipate a certain amount of respect and admiration. After all, marriage is the most sacred of all vows. I’m also studying to become an Episcopalian priest, which takes much of my time.”
During his tour in India, prominent Indian comics Sorabh Pant and Rajneesh Kapoor will also be performing, and courageously enough, no one in the team apprehends a negative reception or controversy from the gay humour in store.
