Have you ever, in your busy lives, stopped by on the road and said ‘Thank You’ to the one who drove you back home? Or the one who guarded the traffic for you or those who were standing alert so that you reach home safely? If not, here’s a chance for you to do your bit. A Delhi-based organisation has started a gratitude drive, wherein you can distribute gifts on the eve of Christmas to auto wallahs, security guards, policemen and more as a mark of appreciation for their services.
“We are in the third edition of this drive. We are currently in the ‘wrapping of gifts’ phase for the goodies that will be distributed on Christmas eve,” says Deepanjali Rao, founder, DeePositive Foundation. The gifts range between `5 and `10 and consist of small knick-knacks such as key chains, biscuits, pens and chocolates.
The idea is to spread a feeling of gratitude. This can be done even with a hug,” adds Rao. People from all walks of life, like businessmen, corporate professionals, students and kids from slums are helping them wrap the gifts at the ongoing Santa Workshop. You, too, can be a part of it. “It’s a walk-in and anyone can come and help us,” he adds. This time around, they have themed the drive as ‘Experience We’. “The thought behind this is to come together as a society.”
Last year they received 1,23,476 gifts. This year they are expecting a better response. “We’ve roped in auto rickshaw wallahs to distribute gifts to their passengers and other people on the road. It’s like mutual gratitude.”
