Best known for their colourful culture, Punjabis have a way of life that attracts one and all.

To celebrate this spirit, Delhi University’s Mata Sundri College hosted its inter-university cultural festival. Many universities from Punjab and Delhi participated in the fest, which was organised by Punjabi Academy, Delhi. The fest saw competitions such as Jhummar (a folk dance by men), Sammi (a folk dance by women), and Folk Orchestra, where groups used folk instruments such as a dhol, chimta, thumbi, algoza, flute and iktara.

“Our aim was to revive the folk instruments,” says Dr Rawal Singh of Punjabi Academy, Delhi. The participants were spotted in a mix of colourful costumes, with the girls dressed in bright coloured patiala salwars with gold jewellery, and the boys sporting traditional kurta pyjamas.
