Looking at the publishing boom overtaking our subcontinent, it is safe to assume that book covers are now a sexy garment. And riding on the back of such book-love, yet another literary festival is geared to board its second flight. The second edition of the three day Taj Literature Festival begins 12th December in Agra.

Speaking on the occasion, festival producer, Harvijay Singh Bahia said, “There was a time when Agra used to be a stronghold of culture. Names like Ghalib, Tansen, Surdas and Nazeer form part of the lore of Agra. This festival is an attempt to rejuvenate the embers of that aesthetic spirit.”

The gala will touch on a myriad subjects ranging from poet Rabindranath Tagore to cricket, to the 100 years of cinema and the 66th years of independence. The festival will also be a stage to the award-winning play, Tumhari Amrita, directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, starring Farooq Shaikh and Shabana Azmi. Internationally acclaimed author William Dalrymple and singer Vidya Shah will celebrate the bygone era of India’s last Mughals, bringing to life a world of emperors and poets, with their dramatic reading and music performances.

Some of the eminent names expected at the event include Ashwin Sanghi, Anupama Chopra, Rauf Ahmed, Christopher Doyle, Aruna Chakravarti, Bina Ramani, Ravi Subramanian, Maria Goretti, MJ Akbar, Sharmila Khan Pataudi, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Ziya-Us-Salam, to name a few.
