If you are a fan of British humour, the next two weeks are your best chance to experience it in Mumbai. Imran Yusuf and Andrew Zaltzman, two renowned comedians from the UK, will be in the city to perform at separate shows.

Zaltzman is an award-winning political satirist and is known for his popular podcast on cricket, The Bugle, on BBC radio. He will be seen at The Canvas Laugh Factory from October 3 to 6. Yusuf, who is performing for the Comedy Store at Blue Frog from September 22 to 29, is known for his stint on the Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Road Show.

This is Yusuf’s first solo performance in the country, and he says, “I'm excited to be here. There are jokes that I can only do for an Indian audience, whether it be utilising my mother tongue, making popular cultural references or talking about the experience of Indian culture in my life. This will be the only place I can really go for it and not hold back.” Zaltzman will be performing his popular act, Cricket Vs The World. Ask him if he will be touching upon the controversies surrounding Indian cricket and he says, “I, like most cricket fans, simply love the sport and get annoyed, bored and frustrated when corruption, petty power games or unbridled commercialism spoil it.” His show is specifically customised for India, mixing some of his existing material about global politics, cricket, the country’s place in the world, and Britain’s relationship with India, with “contrived similes and infantile puns”.

Both Zaltzman and Yusuf admit to having faced unreceptive or easily offended audiences during their careers. Yusuf says, “However, from my past experiences, Indian audiences are amazingly responsive and return the investment of the performance tenfold.” Zaltzman, on the other hand, slickly replies, “Hopefully, in my gigs in India, I’ll be like a vintage Sehwag, and clatter it all over the place.”
