There is nothing fictional about this festival. Taking the concept of literary weeks a step further, the city is gearing up to host India Non-Fictional Festival, a one-of-its kind fest that will give a platform to discuss non-fiction writings.

“Non-fiction includes topics that are, in many ways, a reflection of what we experience or are bothered about in our day-to-day lives. The varied sub-genres within nonfiction include subjects that are of great relevance to society, people, economy and the country,” says Kumaar Bagrodia from LeapVault, organisers of the festival.

Catering to everything in non-fiction, ranging from topics like sociology, politics, economics, corruption, social welfare, women in society, minorities and the media, the fest is different from other lit fests. “We haven’t endeavoured to balance out the overall content. Rather, it has taken its own shape given the mix of brilliant authors, writers, practitioners, journalists who speak at the fest,” he says.

This year’s speakers include Rajmohan Gandhi, Dipankar Gupta, NK Singh, Shankar Aiyer, General VK Singh, Jitendra Bhargava, Pawan Varma and Kiran Karnik, among others. Most of the planned content will be delivered through interactive panel discussions. “We have some innovative sessions like the Open Fest where the audience (authors, bloggers, students) creates the content,” he adds.
