While the art fraternity in the city is gearing up for the fifth edition of the India Art Fair, which will see out-of-the-box art pieces from across mediums from various parts of the globe, the Capital is also witnessing an ongoing art exhibition that focuses on traditional and folk art forms from various parts of the country.

Titled, The Magic Makers, the show, which has artists from Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, among other states, will see folk artworks such as paintings and sculptures.

Talking about the exhibition, Arpana Caur, curator, says, “My mother and I started collecting these works 25 years ago. Initially, people were not interested in folk art. It is only from the last three to four years that there’s been a growing interest for this form of art, as these works have a raw and earthy appeal to them.”

All the works at the exhibition are a part of the reserve collection of Arpana Fine Arts Museum.

Representing Bengal folk art in the event are scrolls that depict everyday life in Bengal, communal harmony, Hiroshima bombings and creation of life on Earth. Madhubani art works from Bihar with the theme of violence, which is a world phenomenon, depict the terrorist attacks on the Parliament, Mumbai and the Twin Towers.
Besides this, there are customised Gond paintings and interesting sculptures from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
