In an effort to support the needy, the indie music fraternity is going all out to do its bit. Two concerts lined up over the next two days will see popular artistes coming together to raise funds for two separate causes. The first, You For Uttarakhand, will be held today, August 8. It will
feature pop rockers Spud In The Box, retro band The Other People, blues act Blackstratblues and The Siddharth Basrur Project, among others, contributing towards the relief for the flash flood victims in the hill state.
Conceptualised by media professionals and friends Stephanie Fernandes and Juhi Khanna, the gig will raise money for kids affected by the tragedy. “We have tied up with Save The Children, an NGO that has been working for the cause since the tragedy struck. Now that the immediate relief work is over, they are focussing on counselling kids to get over the incident,” says Fernandes.
At the second event, titled Cry Freedom — to be held on August 9 — musicians will address the cause of social reforms for women and raise funds for the same. Singer-songwriter Vasuda Sharma, EDM acts Dualist Inquiry, Sulk Station and Sand Dunes, as well as stand-up comedian Aditi Mittal will perform. Sharma says, “As a woman, I could associate with the cause. I’ve experienced various notorious acts during my college days, so I was keen to be a part of this initiative,” says Vasuda. About her performance, she adds, “It will be a fun-filled evening. Shanks (Sankarshan Kini) a multi-instrumentalist, will be accompanying me and we will perform some popular numbers so that people can sing along.”
You For Uttarakhand will be held on August 8, from 8 pm onwards. Cry Freedom show will be held on August 9, from 8.30 pm onwards; both at Blue Frog, Lower Parel.
