When there is merchandise to show love for every city and country in the world, then why can’t Indians wear and promote their love for India?” asks filmmaker and celeb brand consultant Shailendra Singh, who has recently launched a campaign called ‘Made in India’. “We have celebrities becoming brands here. I thought why not build a brand of our great country. We are perhaps the only country that doesn’t see souvenir shops full of ‘I love India’ merchandise. You visit any other country in the world and you can see people flaunting merchandise such as t-shirts that proclaim their love for that country or city,” he says.
A website,www.iammadeinindia.com, has also been launched to promote this campaign.
“The idea was to bring optimism among the youth of this country through this website. We have to be proud of being Indian. On this website one can also buy I love India t-shirts,” says Singh.
“I have started wearing ‘Made in India’ t-shirts with my name on the back whenever I travel abroad and it is such a hit,” he adds.
While these T–shirts can be ordered online, there will also be a contest in which users will be asked to submit designs for “I love India” merchandise.
The website will also have a unique feature in the sense that every morning it will give some ‘Breaking Good News.’
“We keep hearing about crime and corruption. This will be the only website that will give all the positive and good news about our country,” says Singh.
There is more to make Brand India appealing to the youth, Shailendra Singh has even composed a new anthem for the country. “It has been composed within the stipulated guidelines of the Government of India and has been sung by 6 singers. Why can’t we make the national anthem cool?” asks Singh.
