An animated trailer narrated by Philip Pullman revisits the story of Little Red Riding Hood, in advance of the November 8 release Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm: A New English Version.
In a collection timed to mark the 200th anniversary of the Grimm compendium storybook Children's and Household Tales, Pullman selects, introduces and comments upon 50 favorite stories plucked from the 200-plus tales contained within the various editions of that famous anthology.
Pullman's final selection includes well known classics such as "Cinderella", "Hansel and Gretel", "Rapunzel" and "Rumpelstiltskin," alongside others such as "The Fisherman and His Wife," "Godfather Death," "The Girl with No Hands," and "The Three Snake Leaves."
2012 has also been an anniversary year for several other important events in the folk and fairy tale genre.
It's been the 100 year anniversary of V.S. Vernon Jones's Aesop's Fables: A New Translation, the 175th anniversary of the Hans Christian Andersen tales "The Little Mermaid" and "The Emperor's New Clothes", and the 315th anniversary of Charles Perrault's Mother Goose Tales, many of which reappeared under the Grimm name.
