East or West, campus is the best!

What comes to your mind when you think of Delhi University? North and South campuses? With more than 20 colleges situated in the eastern and western zones of the city, these campuses may be less explored but they, too, offer many hangouts for students.

What comes to your mind when you think of Delhi University? North and South campuses? With more than 20 colleges situated in the eastern and western zones of the city, these campuses may be less explored but they, too, offer many hangouts for students.


To make the hunt easier for you, we did a recce of some popular places around DU’s East and West campuses, and came back with loads of good food, fun and frolic on offer for college buddies on a budget.

East campus

Laxmi nagar
Thanks to the Metro connectivity, this market has become a favourite shopping zone for youngsters. A hotspot here is Bobby Tikki Walla, known for its aloo tikki priced at R70. If you want to try multiple cuisines, Nathu Sweets is the place for Indian, Chinese and Dilli style chaat. If catching a movie is on your mind, head to V3S mall which has a variety of shopping and eating options too.

DDA Market, Vasundhara Enclave
If gorging on some hot fried snacks in this monsoon season is on your mind, then this is the perfect hangout for you. Go to Taj Sweet Shop for samosas and paneer pakoras,
priced at R15 each. The shop is very popular with college students. You can also enjoy chholey bhature, kachori, bread pakora and much more. All the desi snacks here, are served piping hot with chutney.

Atta market
There are many little roadside stalls and food shops tucked away in the bylanes of this market. One such shop called Chatkara, serves one of the best spicy golgappas priced at R20 per plate, in the locality. Then there is Aggarwal Sweets where chholey bhature (coupled with perfectly fried potatoes and onions) is a hotseller, and is priced at R35.
You can also shop for some affordable accessories and footwear in this market. “We head to this market after classes. It has all that interests youngsters,” says Anshul, a student of Maharaja Agrasen College.

West campus

Kirti nagar
Brave the rainy season with the relatively new Moments Mall in the city, packed with eating out joints and outlets of many fashion brands. From popular South Indian food chains to Chinese and North Indian, the mall offers a variety of cuisines. If you want to feast on some fast food, this is the ideal place for you. “Here one can enjoy shopping, partying together and pocket friendly meals in the food court with all popular brands’ outlets,” says Tanvi Sharma, a student of Deen Dyal Upadhyaya College.

Janakpuri District Centre
The shopping centre houses some of the most popular eating joints in the area. Since it’s located near colleges, it’s always crowded with students. A must try here is the Bittoo Tikki Wala known for tikki and chaat. “The multiplex experience coupled with variety of food outlets, makes this place a total paisa vasool experience,” says Shivani Sharma, a student of Deen Dyal Upadhyaya College. Rajouri Garden Market
Be it a mall or street-side shops, this market has it all. While here, don’t miss out on Atul Chaat Corner and Soni Bakery for a variety of food.
