The unforgiving Delhi heat is taking a toll on all of us, but the most silent and constant victims are the street animals. While we can hide ourselves at home, dogs have no respite. Why don’t we, as good samaritans, make a difference and protect our furry friends from dying in the brutal heat? Here are a few tips that you could follow:

1.

Water:

Water is the essence of living. Yes, if you can provide enough water for dogs from time to time, this will solve half the problem. Just like you need to keep dehydrated, so do they! Be a part of an initiative called the Waterbowl Project, which is dedicated to provide water in big bowls in various parts of the city for homeless animals. All you need to do is find out mud pots around the city and fill them whenever you can.

2.

Shade:

Since they’re out all day, the sun tends to shift and the trees might not be enough for a shade. Keep small wooden huts for the pooches to rest under. It will keep them from having a heat stroke from direct sun. You can get them made for cheap from furniture markets in Kirti Nagar, Amar Colony and more.

3.

Quick shower:

Splash them with water once in the day. Trust us, it doesn’t take much. Just roll the water pipe lying in your bathroom and shower it on the dogs. You can even get a bucket of water to pour it on them. They will bless you for the rest of your life.

4.

Kiddy pools:

Remember those foldable swimming pools for kids? Keep them with chilled water in it. Dogs love to sit in water. This will keep their feet from burning.
