Bollywood babes have given an entirely new dimension to the traditional look of the Indian blouse. The blouse has shrunken so much, that it can put the postage stamp to shame.
Recently, a lot of our Bollywood divas were seen wearing skimpy blouses — that looked anything but a bikini top — and this puzzled the fashion police. From Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra to Mugdha Godse and Celina Jaitley the bra blouse, as we should call it, all the B’ town babes seem to have lapped up the style.
Designer Nida Mahmood says, “The grace of a sari lies in an elegantly designed blouse. One should keep the sensibility of the garment intact. Also, these actors don't really need to go so minimal to look sexy. The short cholis on toned bodies are okay but not a bra-size blouse. A deep front and back or a beautifully embellished blouse, too, are impactful.”
Have it, will flaunt it
However, designer Rina Dhaka feels that it is a trend that only few can carry off well. She says, “Actors wear it because they have the body to flaunt it and a bikini blouse brings out sexiness. On Deepika Padukone, the bikini blouse is a bad choice. It makes her torso appear long.”
Stylist Rishi Raj says, “These girls are probably feeling insecure and hence sticking to such blouses.” So if you want to copy the trend, do it sensibly or else you will end up looking very trashy.
How to get the look right
Always keep your figure in mind when you plan to go for a skimpy blouse. While it may be look good on a small-chested woman; a big busted woman will look like a disaster.
Keep your accessories minimal. A statement neckpiece with a barely-there blouse is a perfect combination to oomph your style. If you wear a strappy low-cut blouse, concentrate on other accessories, such as a nice bracelet or may be just a mini clutch for that classy effect.
The fabric you choose is also important. A net sari with a short blouse can look too revealing. Go for chiffons or georgettes so that you don’t look very trashy. Also, avoid heavy fabrics such as velvet and silk.
