Touted to be one of the oldest markets of new Gurgaon, the Qutab Plaza (built in 1986) in DLF phase I is the perfect example of old world charm in a new package. From a small chaat counter to Punjabi juttis and kohlapuris, dhoti pants or a trendy jumpsuit, the market offers all this and more at reasonable prices. Shaped like a hexagon, the market is like a maze with shops lined along its many bylanes. It is advisable that you remember the block, so it’s easy for you to find your way around. The market is divided into 15 blocks from A to O. Open from all sides, the market has six entrances with parking all around for easy accessibility.

If you enter from A Block, you can grab some quick bites like chole bhature (Rs30), pani puri (Rs20) and samosa (Rs7) at the Aggarwal Chaat Shop and Sunny Sweets.

Turn right from Sunny Sweets for a collection of trendy jumpsuits, summer dresses and skirts, priced between Rs250 to Rs500 at Fashion Point. “The short and long summer dresses with spaghetti straps are my favourite,” says Neha Sidhu, a regular visitor to the area. The market is also popular with youngsters in Gurgaon for its chic dhoti pants, cotton kurtis and tunics available for Rs250 to Rs400 at many stalls around the market. Mutiyaar in C-Block has a range of printed or plain dhoti pants along with interesting tunics. Most of the shops even have a tailor sitting nearby who can alter the dress as per your requirements.

Match the dhoti pants from Mutiyaar with traditional Punjabi juttis or Kohlapuris from Classic in C block. Leather juttis with bright thread work, cutwork or beads are available for Rs350 to Rs1,000. Kohlapuris for men and women are available for Rs200 to Rs500. If you wish to create your own dress, there are cloth materials like sequins (Rs650 onwards), brocade (R300) or rubia (R100 per metre), laces in brocade, crotia or net from Rs100 per metre with designer latkans from R30 to R500 as add-ons. There is a provision for stitching as well.

If you get tired with all the shopping, sip a glass of refreshing lemon masala for Rs20 at Sip ‘n’ Bite in F Block. The fish ‘n’ chips or funky fries are also worth a bite.
