In a fashion blast from the past, halo headbands are making a comeback and how! Remember Bollywood hottie Parveen Babi sporting a golden sequinned one in the movie Ameer Aadmi Gareeb Aadmi? Now, a bevy of Bollywood beauties such as Sonakshi Sinha, Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut, Parineeti Chopra and Katrina Kaif have been spotted rocking halo headgears too.

“Headbands are an easy way to dress up an outfit. You can experiment a lot with colours and styles,” says designer Jenjum Gadi who has showcased elaborate floral headgears in his collections. He adds, “Team up your outfit with colourful plastic headbands with floral motifs for a day time look and go elegant with a diamante or embroidered one for a night out.” But keep the look simple with minimal makeup and steering clear of over accessorising when sporting a halo headband.

From poker straight to tight curls, everyone can glam up with this retro trend. Hair and beauty expert, Aashmeen Munjaal says, “Headbands are a lifesaver for curly-haired women. Pull back damp hair in a band to flatten hair at the crown, leaving the ends curly.” Those with straight hair can add volume by backcombing hair at the crown before wearing the headband, while the wavy haired damsels can part their hair in the centre and slide on a jewelled band about three inches from the hairline, she suggests. Voila! you are ready to rock the 80s glam look.

Upping the disco-age style tempo
Headbands, halos and boho hair accessories are reminiscent of yesteryears’ flamboyant chic. Woodstock-style fashion inspiration, sequin-soaked disco craze and sporty yet feminine take on fashion on-screen lead to the rise of its retro interpretation. Get your 60’s style on with Janis Joplin-inspired forehead scarf blocks. Tie a cloth band across or take it through your hair with the ends entangled in your high pony or tumbling locks. Or, go for slice-thin metal bands that can transform your look from bohemian to metal hippy, almost immediately.
