The clock struck 10pm and the spectators knew they were in for something special. The arena jam packed, air rife with the possibility of a showstopper and the photographer’s pit hooting and cheering at the drop of the hat, even the most clueless of the lot knew that they were in for something big!

The show was Manish Malhotra’s and he did not disappoint. The lights came on and all eyes were immediately drawn to the front row. Veteran actress Neetu Singh sat poised in the front row looking as lovely as ever. One of the richest front rows till date, socialite Feroze Gujral, designer Manav Gangwani and Varun Bahl also cheered the designer.

Manish’s collection was dedicated to the regional crafts of chikankari and embroideries from Kashmir. The first part of the show saw men stride in wearing bandhgalas and sherwani with traditional motifs and embroideries. A welcome change to see men walk the ramp; Manish’s men’s collection had rich textures of jute, tussar silk in greys, blacks, navy blues and splashes of autumn colours. Dhoti pants, salwars, old world pants are sure to dominate the ramp for the next season as well.

When it comes to dressing women, Manish is a genius. The second part of the show saw women dressed in anarkalis, gherdaar skirts and sarees in his characteristic hues of ivory, cream and nudes merged with the colours of the setting sun like orange, reds and rust. Manish also used net especially in his sarees which were sdorned with embellishments and Kashmiri embroidery.

Manish Malhotra stuck to his word and let his garments do the talking instead of a Bollywood face hogging the limelight.

Even though, he played to his strengths and did not try to experiment much, his collection was very well received and obviously beautiful.
