Soha Ali Khan has no qualms admitting that she’s “not a style expert”. But she has professional help from established fashion designer Aki Narula, who is her co-host on a new makeover TV show. “I can understand the physical and psychological obstacles women face, but when it comes to fashion and styling tips, I was relieved to have Aki around,” says Soha.

Called What Not To Wear — India, the TLC show features the makeover of 13 women between the ages of 18 and 50. “The candidates are nominated by their friends. Then we take them by surprise at their workplaces or colleges and offer them R30,000 for the makeover,” says Aki. “These are real people, who we then take through the entire makeover process.”

The Indian edition of the international show will also mark Aki’s foray into television. “I couldn’t have asked for a better platform to make a debut, since I get to share my experiences here,” he says, adding that the idea of the show isn’t to tell people to own certain outfits. “We’re all a little insecure about certain things. We hope to tackle those issues and personality problems.”

Soha, meanwhile, is glad that this show is a match with her real-life “image”. “Usually I get a little apprehensive when it comes to TV, as people start drawing assumptions, but in the case of this show, where I have to be myself, I don’t have to justify anything,” says the actor, who herself learnt a thing or two during the shoot of the series that goes on air every night starting September 3 at 10 pm.
