With a nip in the air, the setting is perfect to savour a Sunday brunch under the winter sun at one of these restaurants in the Capital.
The winter brunch at FIO is divided into two broad categories - Country Italian and Indian. Stop by the Italian section to enjoy live grills, salads and Bruschettas. They also have an exotic creation section, where new dishes are made. “We have crafted our menu keeping in mind the aspect of day meals,” says Vineet Wadhwa, owner of FIO. “Fresh herbs are plucked in front of you and are added to the dishes,” he adds. In the Indian section, they have street food from different places like Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and South India. Every Sunday, you will get to taste the cuisine from a different state. In desserts, they have cheese cakes, fresh fruits, tiramisus, kulfis and a number of halwas - Panjeer, apple, walnut and almond. In the drinks section, they have Sangrias, Fresh Fruit Mojito, wine and Margaritas. The seating is in the open air, shaded with umbrellas and accompanied with live jazz music.

With an open terrace seating and beautiful decor, this place is also one of the most sought after places for a laid back brunch. Here, they have separate menus for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Both the menus include a soup, starter, main course and dessert. When here, you must try the vegetarian Kibbeh fried rolls, served with tahina dip. While veggies can go for baked or stuffed mushroom, non-vegetarians can try the chicken breast stuffed with cheese, and served with pepper sauce. They also serve cocktails and mocktails. The brunch is on all days and the menu changes everyday.

This place serves two types of brunches - the unlimited dimsum brunch and the Chinese tasting banquet. The unlimited dimsum has over 50 varieties of dimsums, which are classified into three categories - deep fried, steamed and cheung. “Cheung is one of our signature dish. It’s a 2 to 3 inch long flat dimsum,” says Aashita Relan, owner, Royal China. Their tasting banquet, which is only served on Sunday, has four to five starters, five main course dishes and a variety of desserts. While the starters include the Chicken Shanghai Dumpling, the main course features Black Pepper Fish, crispy lamb and chicken in superior sauce.

Summit brunch (itc)
Here, the brunch, called the Sunday Summit Brunch, comprises of live grills and cooking stations. Available at two restaurants - WestView and My Humble House - the brunch does not stand still. Just like the Delhi Metro, it takes you around various food stations with over 15 stops. “We have a map on the table mats itself, so that the guest can get the cuisine of the other restaurant served at his own table,” says Manisha Bhasin, executive chef. The green line takes you through starters like the anti pasti, fondue, Asian soups and salads. The main course is indicated by the blue line, which includes duck roaster, pies and flans. The red line is for desserts, which has fruit carvery, crepiere and more.

Called the Fall Menu, the menu here is specially planned for the winter season and is high on warm foods and soups. Here, guests get a chance to choose their own menu from the various live cooking stations at the alfresco setting. “We have special live stations such as gyoza counter, egg stations, asian grills and pancake counters, so that the guests can select the ingredients of their meal themselves,” says Nikhil Kanwar, the director of the restaurant. To warm up a chilly winter noon, the main course of the brunch is a Mangalorean barbeque with a live grill.

The brunch here is an all-in-one extravaganza with a host of events taking place. To make the eating experience here engaging, there are special live cooking counters. Since the menu changes every week, the chefs try and match the specialties of the week with the weather. At the onset of the winter season, the brunch menu here comprises of special live counters of Mangolian and Indian tawa specialties being cooked live. A must try here are the starters that include aloo chaat and sweet potato chaat. There are also live counters that serve murg korma, bhuna gosht and other Indian delicacies like palak paneer, dal sultani, as well as pasta, egg and grill specialties.

The Second Sin
Also called the Mediterranean and Grill Terrace, this open air restaurant opens only during the winter season. To make the setting perfect for a winter morning, there is a special wood fired oven functional at the terrace. The menu here comprises of special wood fired oven baked pizzas, oriental style grilled stuffed spinach and cottage cheese crepes, grilled lamb chops and much more. “Ideal for the winter season is the baked pear and redcurrant crumble with ice cream, or the date and hazelnut pie with ice cream in dessert,” say the chefs. Along with a number of other wintery specials on offer, there is also a whole range of specific and specially selected red and white wines, which are served to keep the diner warm, along with the mouthwatering winter special food.

Hinglish - The colonial Cafe
This colonial café provides for both indoor and outdoor seating arrangement, along with enclosed gazebos, which are specially heated for the winter. “In winter time, people enjoy sitting in the sun. So, we have planned a special Sunday brunch for the winter season,” says Shagun Somani, the owner of the café. The Sunday brunch here comprises of soups, salads and sandwiches. “Since ours is a very informal café, we have kept the menu light and quick,” says Somani. In the soups menu, try the Chicken Velvet soup and the Dahi ka Shorba. You can also try sandwiches like potato and egg curry sandwich, toasted tuna and potato sandwich with olives. They also offer unlimited food, drinks and salad combos.
