No love is lost if you know how to tackle the downs of a bad breakup. While the heart takes a while to heal, there are still ways through which you can make the process smoother and quicker.

Pump up the esteem
A broken heart increases a person’s tendency to self-blame. Psychologist Niranjan Reddy explains, “We end up creating a space for guilt in our minds, even if it’s not our fault. And this brings down our self-esteem.” So, it’s natural for us to fabricate and find flaws within ourselves as we try to make sense of a breakup.
The fix
Pump up that self-confidence and focus on the ‘me’ factor.
Young journalist Annie Banerji says that getting into fitness mode is her saviour. “Join the gym, eat healthy…Your physical health affects your mental state, so shift the attention to your own self.”

The bucket list
A breakup can become the best thing to happen to you — if you know how to take advantage of it. Break away from your old routine and revamp your bucket list. Explore a hobby you were too lazy to bother about before. “Joining a Salsa dance class would work for me. Apart from the fun, I would also meet new girls!” jokes Neil Suri, a student.

Don’t erase
Erasing someone completely from your life is next to impossible. So you might click on the ‘remove friend’ option and refurbish your phone book, but such acts induce anxiety. Yes, it is hard to see an ex go on with his/her life without you, but, you would realise that trying to delete someone from your life would eventually be of no use. Go on with your social activities without trying to push someone out of it. But, being a curious social stalker does not help either, so strike a balance.

Hair therapy
A haircut has the power to transform your mood in an instant. Don’t go the bald-Britney way, but change up those tresses and see how good it feels. But, don't take a risk that would add to your bad mood. Go the short way if you have always have flowing locks or get some extensions if the bob has been your friend for long.
