The monsoon is putting up its final sound and light show. But even before you pack those umbrellas up and get set for the sweltering October heat, take time out to book yourself into one of the many activities making a splash on the city circuit. From night parasailing and waterfall rappelling to white water rafting and wake boarding, outdoor sports are making a comeback.
“We offer single and tandem night parasailing. Around 13-15 people are taken out in a boat anchored at Chowpatty jetty. They take off and land on the boat in mid-sea. The time spent in the air is around four minutes, but you appreciate Mumbai’s illuminated skyline in that time,” says Amal Majumdar, manager, H20 Water Sports, adding that the timings are erratic currently as the monsoon hasn’t withdrawn completely. The cost of the entire activity is Rs. 1,800 for a single attempt while tandem costs Rs. 2,800. Other activities at the Girgaum Chowpatty club include jet skiing, wake boarding, water skiing, kayaking, sailing, daytime parasailing and a night cruise. “This trip is around 45 minutes and takes you around the bay. However, the route may change depending on police restrictions as some spots fall under the VIP zone.”
But if building finesse and skill matters more than an adrenaline rush, Avid Learning is organising a four-hour sailing session for amateurs on October 20. It will include an introduction to sailing, history and the terms used. “Then you will be taken for an hour on a yacht and explained different roles like tagging,” says Dhwani Vyas from Avid Leaning.
There will be three 25-foot yachts with five to six participants on each, and they will go through all the roles. At the end, the teams will have a small race where they will implement what they’ve learnt. Vyas says, “If someone wants to gain additional details or wants to take up sailing, we will also offer information on where you can learn the art, how to buy a boat and learn about the different models and even where to purchase equipment.” The cost for the session is Rs. 5,400.
Get set to challenge your limits as you descend down a deep or shallow waterfall using safety gear. The 100 to 150 metre drop on the Kundalika river acts as the perfect starting point for beginners. Book your trip with V Adventure.
