In an election rally in UP on Wednesday, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the Modi government had pursued politics based on ‘lies’ and failed to keep promises made to people in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being obsessed with her family, saying BJP leaders devoted half of their speeches to blaming her family members instead of telling the people what they did in the past five years.

“Fifty percent of their speeches target my family members questioning what Nehruji or Indiraji did? But they do not tell people what they did in the past five years,” said Priyanka while addressing a public meeting in Khaga area of Fatehpur Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday. Besides addressing two public meetings in Fatehpur, Priyanka also held a road show at Hamirpur in Mahoba in Bundelkhand.

Priyanka said the Modi government had pursued politics based on ‘lies’ and failed to keep promises made to people in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. “They did not give you Rs 15 lakh, they did not provide jobs or empower the women,” said Priyanka adding, “When they fail to keep promises they distance from the people and try to throttle the voice of the people. Such leaders can’t be patriots or nationalists.” Priyanka said the Modi government did not have funds for welfare of people though it wrote off Rs 5.5 lakh crore of industrialists. She said, “While the industrialists and corporate earned Rs 10,000 crore from the ‘PM fasal bima yojana’, the farmers do not get the insurance money when they face problems.”

Priyanka said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen in foreign countries and in company of the actors than among his people. The PM hasn’t visited a single village or a voter in his constituency in last five years, she said.

On CM Yogi Adityanath’s statement that stray animals should be kept in open spaces of jails, she said it was weird. “Those who should be in jail have fled to foreign countries under watch of this government,” she said. “Now in election season the CM is remembering this problem of stray animals; what he was doing for the last two years.” She said the government gave thousand of crore to a few corporate but it ran out of money when it came to giving relief to farmers.

In Banda, where Modi is schedule to address a rally on Thursday, Priyanka called him “Pradhan Prachar Mantri” and said large quantity of water was being wasted to welcome him in the arid Bundelkhand region. “As I was coming here, I saw stray animals and the dry land. I have seen a video of roads being washed to welcome PM in Banda. Is he a ‘chowkidar’ or a ‘shahanshah’ from Delhi,” asked Priyanka while targeting Modi for being indifferent to the problems of people of Bundelkhand region.
