Lok Sabha elections 2019: Sena MLC from Mumbai found with ₹64k cash in car; booked
Hitendra Thakur, Vasai MLA and BVA chief, said it is “astonishing that Phatak was founding roaming with cash in Nallasopara even though he is a Thane MLC”.
Ravindra Phatak, a Shiv Sena MLC from Thane, Mumbai, was booked by the Tulinj Police after the flying squad of the Election Commission stopped his car and found ₹64,500 cash, which was allegedly meant to be distributed to voters in Nallasopara early on Monday. Acting on a tip-off by Vasai mayor, Rupesh Jadhav, the EC squad stopped Phatak, who was travelling in his car, near Central Park in Nallasopara (East). Inspector Daniel Ben of Tulinj police station said the cash was found on checking the car. “It is a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct Rules and we have booked Phatak under section 188 (disobedience) of the IPC, though we have not arrested him yet,” said Ben.
Moreover, there was an argument between Sena and Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) workers, he said. “We have booked Phatak, Jadhav and 60 others from both parties for rioting and wrongful restraint,” said Ben.
