Police on Sunday lodged an FIR against 11 teenaged boys for extorting money from their 13-year-old classmate. The victim stole Rs four lakh from his parents over two years to buy drugs from them. All the boys are students of class IX at a school in Gomti Nagar.

Based on a complaint of the father of the victim, an FIR under section 406 and 385 for criminal breach and extortion was filed on Sunday, police said.

The father has alleged his son’s friends made him take to drugs and then started demanding money from him. The boy allegedly withdrew Rs 2.5 lakh from his father’s ATM account in around 55 transactions in the last 18 months. Later, the boy allegedly stole Rs 1.5 lakh from his house in several installments and gave the money to his friends.

The incident came to light around a week ago when the boy’s parents caught him stealing money from his house. He then told them of the sequence of events. The father has alleged the families of the boy’s friends did not respond well when he approached them after which he decided to inform the police.

Deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Rajeev Krishna told HT it was a sensitive case as both the victim and the accused are minors. He said the boy would be medically examined to confirm drug addiction.
