Twenty days after being appointed Banaras Hindu University’s first woman chief proctor, prof Royana Singh constituted her proctorial board team, accommodating 11 women professors in the 31-strong board. The previous board had six women.
Dr Rajesh Singh, the BHU public relations officer, said, “Chief proctor prof Singh has reconstituted the board which the BHU administration has approved.”
The university administration has issued a formal notification on the reconstitution of the board. The board, headed by prof Royana Singh, consists of four deputy chief proctors, 26 proctors and a deputy proctor. Two of her deputies are women professors.
Besides, nine women have been deployed as proctors. Prof Royna Singh was appointed the chief proctor on September 28 after her predecessor prof ON Singh resigned from the post following violence and a cane charge on women students on September 23 night when they were protesting against molestation of a girl student on BHU premises September 21 evening.
Royna Singh said, “We will work as a team. Ensuring tight security on the premises is our main objective. The proctors will also carry out patrolling on the premises after sunset. We will hold a meeting to discuss measures that can be taken to upgrade security further.”
Royna Singh has constituted three Quick Response Teams (QRTs) that patrol the campus. The teams have been asked to rush to the spot within five minutes in case of any incident on the premises. As many as 55 CCTV cameras have been installed at various spots on the campus.
