A 12-year-old boy was injured after he was accidentally shot by a stray bullet from a guard’s pistol in Kareem Nagar village of Gosaiganj police area on Monday. Police have seized the weapon and said investigation was going on in the case.

According to reports, a large number of people had gathered at a temple for a religious ceremony, where ‘prasad’ was being distributed.

Security guard Raj Bahadur, who was deployed at a nearby factory, was also in the queue to take the ‘prasad’.

However, when he bowed his head at the deity, his gun fell from its holder and went off, triggering panic at the temple. Gun pellets hit the 12-year-old Dileep in the neck, who was rushed to the community health centre.

He was later referred to the Balrampur Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.

Dileep’s elder brother Sandip submitted a complaint to the police, who said though the incident appeared to be an accident, but investigation was going on and the weapon had been seized.
