Owing to the intense cold conditions in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Sunday ordered closure of all schools up to class eight till January 13.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting held this evening to review situation arising due to prevailing cold wave in the state, an official spokesman said here.
She said that all schools, including government, aided and private, will remain closed till January 13. Earlier, the government ordered closure of schools till January 9.
Mayawati directed that arrangements for additional supply of blankets for free distribution should be ensured and arrangements of bonfires at public places in rural areas should continue.
She directed that in order to provide relief to the poor and shelterless, distribution of free blankets should be started immediately.
The CM directed the health department officials to ensure attendance of doctors in government hospitals along with availability of medicines and equipments for treatment of patients ill due to the severe cold.
The officials informed the CM that an additional deman of 30,000 to 40,000 blankets was received from tehsils.
