Rai is on run since his name surfaced for hatching the murder conspiracy on June 9 after arrest of his aide Ram Babu and two contract killers. The police had claimed that the inspector masterminded the killing merely because he wanted to implicate one Aqmal who was getting uncomfortably close to his ladylove, who is the boy’s cousin. The boy stayed with the girl’s family in Indira Nagar and was killed when assailants sprayed him bullets after barging into the house.
